Benefits of Joining the AMA

Professional Development

Throughout the year, the AMA organizes various events available at special rates for its members. The series of workshops, seminars and conferences enable members to learn, network, share ideas and grow their knowledge-base with the industry’s top experts.

Workshops cover topics such as advertising, circulation and editorial as well as other relevant subjects. The AMA also invites national and internationally-renowned speakers to discuss topics relevant to the industry. Organizations such as Magazines Canada also offer discounts to members of the AMA for other valuable courses

Networking

The AMA values the effectiveness of strong relationships among its members. To this end, editors and staff at member magazines will be invited to informal networking events, as an opportunity to gather with their peers in the magazine industry.

Communication

Members will have the opportunity to display news items on the AMA website. An electronic newsletter, delivered right to your inbox, provides updates on industry news, events and happenings.

Promotion

Member publications are showcased at www.atlanticmagazines.ca. Each member receives a featured listing that includes a cover image and description of the publication(s) as well as contact information, a link to their website and rotating ad space within the site’s ‘Featured Member’ section.

Public awareness

The AMA strives to raise awareness of Atlantic magazines in the region. In addition to newsletters with industry updates, press releases, promotional advertising and other projects are organized in support of member publications.

Advocacy

The AMA believes the ability to speak with a single voice will strengthen the hand of this growing industry. A strong membership backing can allow the AMA to effectively represent the interests of the region’s magazines. With this backing, the AMA will serve as the formal communication conduit with governments on any and all aspects of industry concern.

Annual Meeting

All members are entitled to attend the annual general meeting of the AMA.

Resources

Membership in the AMA will open up a completely new source of invaluable industry-related information on all aspects of magazine publishing from a new launch, to advertising sales, circulation development, distribution and editorial content. The relationship of the AMA with the parent organization, Magazines Canada, will ensure the most complete and most recent information is available to members.

Databases of member magazines, freelancers, web agencies, advertising agencies, printers, and other associate members are maintained by the AMA and available via its website, www.atlanticmagazines.ca.

The AMA will strive to create an advertising directory that will be promoted to advertising agencies. This downloadable document will be available at www.atlanticmagazines.ca. Members will be included in the listings that outline basic circulation, distribution, and advertising information as well as contacts for Advertising Sales for each publication.

The members-only section of the AMA website provides additional resources including electronic versions of presentations from seminars and conferences.
